Being happy is something we all seek in life. What about if the way to get there was in fact very simple. Gratitude is the key to happiness, it is so helpful and effective to reach true happiness.
There is a quote I love :
“True happiness is to enjoy the present, without anxious dependence upon the future, not to amuse ourselves with either hopes or fears but to rest satisfied with what we have, which is sufficient, for he that is so wants nothing. The greatest blessings of mankind are within us and within our reach. A wise man is content with his lot, whatever it may be, without wishing for what he has not.” ― Seneca
Seeking new ventures, trying to fulfill every desire make happiness very shortlived. Also, it would be a rather superficial and material based concept. In order to reach true happiness, we need to focus on the present moment and what we already have.
· STEP 1 : make a gratitude list of what you already have , and don’t take them for granted.
“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” Ralph Emerson
Focus on the small things (your lunch, your plant, a helpful stranger for instance). Sometimes, we don’t value what we have because we take them for granted. The point is that, when we have something, we get used to it and we forget that we can lose it so quickly. So be grateful for the good things that come to you and give thanks continuously.
· STEP 2 : start your day with gratitude, love and peace.
Give thanks for the gift of a new day, and try to get the best of it. Live the present moment and enjoy the little things. Also, pray for the people who are suffering and struggling. Commit yourself to be kind with others.
· STEP 3 : Connect with Nature.
Connect with Nature. Open up to the simple beauty in life. See the endless inspiration you can draw from it. This is a great way to gain perspective, to feel grounded, grateful and at peace. Nature can be the perfect starting point to ground yourself and focus your attention in the present moment. Connect with the earth’s energy, it will help you reach a more productive, healthy and creative life.
“If the only prayer you said was thank you, that would be enough.”
― Meister Eckhart
